Moira

Located on the edge of Ponsonby overlooking Western Park, 16 Moira Street explores the relationship between form, material and colour through a deliberately restrained architectural language. The development comprises three standalone homes that share a common footprint and material palette, allowing the composition of each building to become the primary architectural expression.

The design began with a simple proposition: remove unnecessary variation and allow proportion, massing and light to define the architecture. Brick became the sole cladding material, extending across walls, corners and landscape elements to create a cohesive architectural identity. Rather than introducing contrast through multiple materials, variation is achieved through the sculpting of the built form, with curved walls and generous openings softening the solidity of the masonry and introducing moments of lightness throughout the composition.
