Medical Centre

Hobsonville Medical Centre challenges the conventional suburban medical building by placing equal importance on the public realm, urban character and patient experience. Occupying a prominent site on Hobsonville Road, the project accommodates nine medical tenancies within a building that seeks to reinforce the evolving identity of the town centre while maintaining a comfortable relationship with its residential neighbours.

Rather than expressing the development as a single commercial building, the architecture is composed as three interconnected forms. Deep recesses, articulated brickwork and a varied rhythm of arches reduce the perceived scale of the building, allowing it to read as a collection of smaller elements that reflect the grain of the surrounding neighbourhood while responding to the increasing intensity of the wider centre. Brick was selected as the primary material for its permanence, familiarity and ability to provide a civic quality appropriate for a community building.
