Madeira Lane is a collection of seven townhouses that explores a more urban approach to medium-density living. Located within a private laneway in Grafton, the project draws inspiration from the qualities often found in established European neighbourhoods, where architecture actively contributes to the public realm and everyday interaction between residents.
Rather than turning inward, each home is designed to engage with the lane. Generous glazing and large sliding doors create a visual connection between the interior and the shared street, while balconies positioned at each level encourage a sense of occupation beyond the building envelope. The intention was to create homes that feel connected to their surroundings, allowing opportunities for informal interaction between neighbours while maintaining the privacy expected of contemporary urban living.
